Lund University is looking for a talented Associate Researcher with expertise in machine learning to join InfraVis—Sweden’s national infrastructure for scientific data visualization. About the Role
As part of InfraVis and CIPA (Lund University’s local infrastructure for image processing and analysis), you will work at the intersection of machine learning, scientific visualization, and interdisciplinary research. This role offers the chance to contribute to diverse research projects, develop innovative methodologies, and support scientists nationwide in their data analysis and visualization needs.
As a member of a highly collaborative team, you will have access to leading national and international experts, fostering a dynamic environment for learning, discussion, and solving complex challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and apply advanced machine learning techniques to analyze and visualize scientific data
- Identify and correct missing, noisy, or erroneous data
- Implement Natural Language Processing (NLP) methods for extracting insights from scientific texts
- Work with image processing and tomographic data analysis, such as synchrotron X-ray microtomography
- Develop custom loss functions and information-theoretic methods for optimized data processing
- Apply autoencoders (VAEs, GANs), diffusion models, and deep learning to explore patterns in probability distributions
- Design VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality) visualization solutions for scientific applications
- Collaborate with researchers across various disciplines, providing expertise in machine learning and data-driven solutions
Who We’re Looking For
We seek a driven, collaborative, and innovative researcher with strong technical skills.
Required Qualifications:
✔ Ph.D. or equivalent experience in machine learning, computer science, data science, or a related field
✔ Strong experience in image processing and data analysis
✔ Publications in machine learning and AI
✔ Excellent programming skills in Python or similar languages
✔ Strong communication and collaboration skills—working across multiple research domains
✔ High motivation, strong time management, and the ability to learn quickly
Preferred Skills (Meritorious):
✔ Experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP)
✔ Familiarity with autoencoders, transformers, or generative AI models
✔ Experience working with scientific computing and visualization techniques
✔ Ability to manage software tools and computational infrastructure
