InfraVis is a national research infrastructure funded by the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) in support of scientific advancement through the application of state-of-the-art data analysis and visualization techniques.

Our Mission

InfraVis aims to significantly improve data analysis support, address new challenges involving large and complex data and create competitive advantages for researchers associated with Swedish universities or research institutes.

Our mission is to provide researchers with visualization services through a distributed and adaptable team of experts, thus elevating their global scientific impact.

Our Vision

The InfraVis vision is scientific discovery through state-of-the-art visualization support.

The overarching aims of InfraVis are to provide researchers at Swedish universities with:

  • visualization support to propel Swedish research and its impact nationally and internationally
  • education in state-of-the-art visualization methods
  • increased awareness of visualization and data analysis as research tools in all research areas.

Our definition of the term “visualization” includes all stages of data analysis in the visualization pipeline. Statistics, machine learning, and other tools are a part of the InfraVis arsenal. The data-driven analysis produces results that, through methodical design, have visual representations. These visual representations, when interactive, are visualizations that exploit the extraordinary ability of the human brain to detect, classify, and relate patterns and anomalies visually.

Organization Structure

InfraVis consists of visualization environments at nine partner organisations in Sweden interconnected in a nodal structure.
