InfraVis call 2026
Dear Researcher,
The InfraVis annual call for applications will be open 1–31 October 2026.
Do you have a research question that could benefit from new ways of exploring, analyzing, or visualizing data?
InfraVis collaborates with researchers across disciplines to uncover patterns, test ideas, and communicate results through advanced data analysis and visualization. Through this annual call, you can receive dedicated in-depth support from our experts, working closely with you to develop methods, refine analyses, and create effective visualizations.
We welcome projects involving diverse data types, including text, networks, surveys, simulations, and more. Whether you are tackling a complex analytical challenge or seeking new ways to communicate your findings, InfraVis can help move your research forward.
How to apply
Applications are submitted via EasyChair and include:
- CVs for the PI and co-applicants (max 10 pages total)
- An abstract
- A project proposal (max 4 pages, using the template provided)
Submit your proposal via EasyChair.
We welcome researchers in Sweden to apply. You are also welcome to contact us in advance to discuss your project or request support through our portal. There will also be several online drop-in application support opportunities available in October.
- October 14, 15:00-16:00
- October 28, 15:00-16:00
InfraVis support is not limited to applicants from universities or other higher education institutions. Applications may also come from, for example, research institutes, government agencies, hospitals and other Swedish organisations undertaking research, development or innovation activities.
- Applicants must have a role and mandate to lead the collaboration with InfraVis. A formal PI title, previous grants, or external funding are not required.
- An active position at an eligible Swedish organisation is required, but it does not need to be permanent.
- Researchers at organisations such as RISE, SMHI and SVA are eligible to apply.
- Dissemination and impact can take different forms depending on the project and organisation.
Scope
Academic research today relies on analysing data from a wide range of sources, including experiments, simulations, observations, sensors, text, surveys, and large datasets. InfraVis supports these workflows through advanced data analysis and visualization. InfraVis brings together over 50 experts across nine universities in Sweden, providing access to specialised expertise, tools, and visualization laboratories for working with large and complex data.
Application Requirements
The applicant must have an active position at a Swedish organisation engaged in research, development, or innovation activities and be able to lead the collaboration with InfraVis.
The project must include plans for scientific dissemination, such as:
- A peer-reviewed publication acknowledging InfraVis, and/or
- National outreach activities (e.g. a Dome visualization production).
The research team must be actively engaged in the collaboration to support co-design, knowledge transfer, and evaluation. The application must describe datasets (existing or planned) in sufficient detail for InfraVis support. Ethical approvals and handling of sensitive data must be managed by the applicant. Data storage and transfer must be managed by the applicant.
- InfraVis applies a subsidised cost model for this call (see further below).
For the InfraVis 2026 call, InfraVis may select a limited number of projects for full or partial subsidy. Applicants who wish to be considered for such support should indicate this in their application. Applications will first be assessed against the Application Requirements, after which again, the impact of visualization support, as well as the potential for development of reusable and scalable tools will be considered. This type of support will only be reserved for highly ranked applications and awarded based on the merits of the application.
Levels of Support from InfraVis
InfraVis offers support all year round – but during the annual call, the workshops offer a unique opportunity for applying researchers to get hands-on help with their in-depth application. There are three levels of support in InfraVis: under 10 hours, under 80 hours, and under 600 hours. This call addresses the second and third levels called “mid-level” and “in-depth support”, respectively. You will apply for in-depth support and during the review process, and InfraVis will assess whether the project receives in-depth support or mid-level support.

Online Drop-In Application Support
We will provide several opportunities in October to join a Zoom call for getting further assistance with your applications (no registration required):
- October 14, 15:00-16:00
- October 28, 15:00-16:00
Evaluation criteria
Applications are assessed based on:
- Scientific quality and impact
- Visualization impact and added value
- Coverage across disciplines and universities
- Match between project needs and InfraVis expertise
Call timeline
- Application opens: 1 October
- Application deadline: 31 October
- Evaluation: November – late January
- Results announced: early February 2027
During the review period, InfraVis may contact applicants to clarify details.
