The aim of this project was to develop visual aid for recruitment of interviewees who are refugees with limited previous education and gain fully informed consent from respondents who do not read or fully master Swedish language.

Securing fully informed consent is a core of ethical research. However, traditional text-heavy consent forms often exclude vulnerable groups, particularly refugees who may not read or fully master the local language. To address this inequality, the project team developed a series of explanatory videos designed to communicate rights and participation details clearly and accessibly.

The videos were produced using industry-standard creative tools, including Adobe Illustrator, After Effects, and Premiere. To ensure broad reach, the content was localized into six languages: Swedish, Arabic, Swahili, Dari, Persian (Farsi), Tigrinya.

This initiative represents a significant step forward forinclusive and ethical research prectices. By prioritizing thoughtful consent, the project aligns with the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) and CARE (Collective Benefit, Authority to Control, Responsibility, Ethics) principles for data handling.
