Determine a person’s age based on just a photo? Anders Hast – Professor in Computerised Image Processing and InfraVis Application Expert from the Uppsala node is developing a unique AI method which can enable us to estimate a person’s age through face recognition better than the currently used medical methods that examine knees, teeth and collarbones with too high margins of error. The method is not only partly based on visualization techniques, but it also employs visualization for the analysis of both the data and the results. 

Anders Hast has actively been using his method for accurate identification of a person’s sex and has high hopes that the method will prove effective even in the case of age estimates. This new method can provide grounds for fairer decisions in asylum-related cases.
