On the 17th and 18th of October 2022, the Uppsala node held the first InfraVis User Trainings on the topics “Visualizing Data of Varying Dimensions” and “Visualizing Geographic Data”.
25 researchers, all coming from different research fields and representing five different universities, had registered for the training in “Visualizing Data of Varying Dimensions”. The distinguished lecturer Anders Hast presented the theory about how to improve visualization of your scientific data, and combined it with hands-on exercises in MATLAB. The participants familiarised themselves with straight-forward techniques for making readable plots and graphs as well as more advanced techniques for dimensionality reduction.
15 researchers from six different universities had registered the training in “Visualizing Geographic Data”. Professor Stefan Seipel presented principles of representing and visualizing geographically referenced data, and he combined the overview of these principles with hands-on exercises in MATLAB. The participants engaged with straight-forward techniques for plotting scalar data as well as more advanced techniques for plotting 3D geospatial data.
